311 iPhone App

Funk-rock band 311 score high marks for their artist app in iTunes, which has become a must-have for any hardcore, devoted fan of the band who owns an iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad) due to its frequent news updates, full-fledged media offerings, and ability to connect fans of the band with each other.

The 311 iOS app from Sony Music includes a news feed that’s updated nearly continuously, which is augmented by a live Twitter feed that shares updates from the band’s account and each member’s individual Twitter accounts. Sure, you can find this stuff elsewhere, but for the dedicated fan, it’s nice to be able to access it all in one spot.

Fans who install this free app can stream plenty of the band’s full-length songs, watch their music videos, and view their photos. The app also alerts users to the latest 311 concerts, with the band’s full tour itinerary and the ability to purchase tickets directly from within the app. You can also buy fan merchandise from the official 311 Store (T-shirts, hats, and hoodies).

But, importantly, this app isn’t just about hearing what the band is up to and buying their stuff, as important as those components are to any artist app. It also includes a social networking channel where 311 fans can communicate with each other, called the fan wall.

All in all, we found 311′s app to have the right balance of tools and media for super fans — and judging from the app’s comments and ratings, they appreciate it too.
