Review: Dynamic App Design Metronome Plus

metronome plusThis app was featured in the ‘New and Noteworthy’ section of the iTunes store the week following its release — pretty impressive, for an app that basically just beeps until you tell it to stop.

(Oops — We updated this review at a new URL.)

Designed by musicians with pure ease of functionality in mind, Metronome Plus is one of the cleanest, smoothest operating metronome apps we’ve yet seen for the iOS platform, and iTunes lists over 200 such apps to keep musicians on time as they play.

metronome plusSimple to use and brilliantly designed, with no extraneous features or small buttons to fumble over, Metronome Plus ($1) is dead accurate where it counts. We put it to the stopwatch test alongside several of its competitors for a non-biased comparison, and Metronome Plus not only held to the meter without losing a beat here and there, the way many of the free options did, but also faithfully performs the indicated BPM (beats per minute).

In a perfect world, this sort of functionality would be a no brainer, but you’d be surprised at the number of glorified click tracks developers try to pass off as metronomes. Don’t sacrifice accuracy in such an essential element of your practice routine; go with our pick, Metronome Plus (currently half price).
