September 2, 2011 at 11:33 am Editor Talks Facebook Music on Marketplace Tech Report and Fox News Live

facebook musicEverybody’s talking about Facebook’s upcoming music service, which doesn’t appear to be a service per se, but rather a strategy of integrating with music services such Spotify, Rhapsody, MOG, Rdio, and Napster.

“Facebook Music,” reported to be announced on September 22, could also integrate with internet radio services like Pandora — but the main point is that Facebook will show you what your friends are listening to so you can comment and possibly join them so you can listen along to the same thing at the same time.

The group listening phenomenon that took the music nerd world by storm in 2011 is about to hit the mainstream. To help explain what this means for music fans and the music industry, I appeared on American Public Media’s Marketplace Tech Report, which airs on broadcast radio across the country; you can also listen to the four-minute segment here:

I’ll also be appearing on Fox News Live around 1:05pm ET on Friday to talk more about Facebook’s music plans.
