Codename: Spun Supercharges Spotify with Social, Locational Features

spun techcrunch disrupt sf hackathon codenameSpotify is now open for iOS developers to build whatever they want on top of millions of songs through a newly-released API.

What does that mean to you? Well, if you have Spotify Premium account, you can access all of that on-demand music within any iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad app that uses Spotify’s API, expanding your listening options considerably.

This is big news, as noted earlier.

The third music-related app presented at the TechCrunch Disrupt SF Hackathon this weekend was Codename: Spun, an iOS app from Jon Bardin, Justin Mahon, Ruth Martin, and Brad Smith that turns Spotify into a social, location-aware music player.

Codename: Spun lets you see what people around you are listening to; earn badges like “Bob Marley Freak” (for whichever unadventurous reggae fan listens to the most Marley); discover new music using an unexplained feature; stream any song in Spotify; see what music is trending around your location or amongst your friends; see (and hear) nearby artists, albums and tracks; and add users to your favorites.

That’s a heady list of features, . We look forward to seeing Codename: Spun in action, assuming the crew behind it submit this hack to iTunes… and why wouldn’t they?
